Education visualized by the Augustinian and Spinellian Spirituality
Education should aim to cultivate both the mind and the soul. From an Augustinian perspective, learning involves an inward journey of self-discovery, where we come to know more about ourselves and our relationships with the Divine. St.Augustine taught that true wisdom comes from looking within and opening our minds to receive enlightenment from God.
Complementing this, Spinellian spirituality also emphasizes the unity of all things and our intimate connection with God and the cosmos. Education should help students appreciate the inherent beauty, order and interconnectedness of the natural world as a path to understanding the underlying oneness of existence.
Fusing the Augustinian Spirituality and the quest for self-knowledge along spiritual enlightenment will help the Spinellian reverence for integral growth. In this way, education can nurture the full development of the human potential focusing on the rational, emotional and spiritual. The goal is to produce good human beings who are intellectually skilled, ethically grounded and gifted with the self-awareness to find profound meaning in life through contemplation of the inner and outer selves.
